With so many popular products, an About-face review is long overdue. About-Face has quickly established itself as one of the most innovative makeup brands on the market. From its Cheek Freak Blush Balm to its newly launched foundation The Performer, About-Face knows a thing or two about creating TikTok-viral products. Although I haven’t tried any of the brand’s products before this, I knew so much about them from my TikTok For You page alone. After the brand launched at Ulta, I was constantly swatching everything in-store and seeing people rave about the products online. So naturally, it felt necessary to actually test everything out for myself and see if the products live up to the hype.
Created by Halsey, all of About-Face’s products are vegan, clean, and cruelty-free. About-Face strives to create makeup without rules in order to promote self-expression. One of the things that struck me most was how colorful all of the products are. With so many shades, the brand is practically begging you to get more creative with your looks.
All of About-Face’s products are simple yet elevated. I hate heavy foundation, but I thought the Performer was a really easy to wear foundation that didn’t feel heavy on my skin. Its Smokesticks, Shadowsticks, and Matte Fluid Eye Paints were all right up my alley and made applying eyeshadow quick and easy. I usually don’t wear eyeshadow on a daily basis but these products made it easy to. I love how the brand emphasizes that fun makeup doesn’t have to take hours to do—all of the products are extremely user friendly and that’s one thing I always look for.

I am not a foundation girly by any means, so I’m always skeptical of trying out new ones. But after seeing so much TikTok buzz about this one, I had to try it out. The Performer pleasantly surprised me. I love how lightweight it feels and its skin-focused formula. My shade M1NEUTRAL looked on the warm side when I first applied it, but it blended in really nicely and didn’t look orangey afterwards. Although TikTokers have expressed their dislike for the applicator and its potential to be unsanitary, I actually love it and found it made application very easy.Matte Fluid Eye Paint

By far one of about-face’s most iconic products, the Matte Fluid Eye Paint was one I was dying to try. This liquid eyeshadow comes in so many bright shades and is super pigmented. If you’re a fan of the indie sleaze smudged eyeliner look, you need the Smokestick! It’s dual-ended with a crayon and a shadow-loaded sponge to get the perfect smoky look. I used the crayon first to make a wing and then the sponge to smoke it out. It’s super easy to use and perfect for nights out.

I prefer a doe foot or a traditional lipstick applicator, this one is smaller and so it’s harder to apply. Not to mention, you have to be careful not to twist up too much because it doesn’t twist back down.
